Criminal defense: Missouri home invasion leads to murder charge

Parents in Missouri will often go to great lengths to ensure the safety of their children. Those who have experienced a home invasion may live in fear for their lives as wells as the lives of their children. Unfortunately, a woman in Missouri is likely considering her criminal defense after she was charged with murder after reporting an alleged home invasion.

The incident involved a 31-year-old mother. Apparently, two men had come into the woman's apartment, which was reportedly unlocked, earlier in the day demanding money and drugs. The woman claims that the men sprayed her with pepper spray before leaving with drugs and money.

Later that day, one of the men reportedly returned and knocked on the door. When the woman's boyfriend opened the door, she reportedly shot the man who had earlier robbed her. Police say that she then shot the man at least one more time while he was lying in the breezeway. The man was pronounced dead after he was transported to the hospital. The woman was charged with armed criminal action and first degree murder.

The woman, whose young children were also in the apartment at the time of the shooting, claims to have been acting in self-defense. However, she is now facing serious criminal charges after her reaction to the man who allegedly broke into her home. To help her respond to the charges against her, she may choose to seek guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney. Such a professional can help her decide whether to fight the charges in a Missouri court or accept a plea deal.
