Personal injury: Teen crushed by car after exiting vehicle

If you are involved in a car accident along a busy highway, it is important to stay in your car until law enforcement can arrive. Exiting the vehicle increases your risk of being hit by another car at rapid speed. Car accidents can happen in seconds and often times drivers have no time to react. Unfortunately, there are often fatalities, as was the case with a recent collision on a Missouri interstate.

A fatal car accident on an interstate highway in early December left four people injured and a teen was killed. The teen was crushed by a car moments after a collision. He had been involved in an accident with another car and exited his vehicle. The teen was standing on the left shoulder along the highway between his vehicle and the other car involved in the accident when a third car struck the rearmost car, launching the unoccupied vehicle forward and striking the teen.

The man driving the middle vehicle was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. He was hospitalized following the accident. The driver of the third car and his two passengers suffered only moderate injuries.

As a parent you want to protect your child and are unprepared for their untimely and lamentable loss. While grieving for your child, any addional stress, such as handling the logistical aspects following the accident, can be overwhelming. In some cases, survivors of the victim choose to file a lawsuit against the responsible party. While we understand that a settlement will not replace a loved one, it can help with any expenses incurred as a result of the accident. An attorney experienced with personal injury cases can help make the process more manageable during this difficult time.
