Personal injury: College student killed by drunk driver

Many people in Missouri have dreams for their future. Unfortunately, even those who have the motivation to fulfill their dreams often find their goals snatched away from them due to the negligent acts of others. For example, a young woman recently suffered a fatal personal injury while spending time with friends.

The victim in the case was a college student who was at a bar near the campus with her friends. Reports indicate that the young woman had her hand on the door, ready to exit the building, at approximately 12:40 a.m. on a day in early January. Unfortunately, police say that the building was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 21-year-old man.

The young woman died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. The alleged driver of the pickup was arrested at the scene. Police say that his blood alcohol content was over double the legal limit, and he was charged with first degree involuntary manslaughter.

Unfortunately, the family of a young woman who dreamed of being an elementary school teacher is now left mourning her loss instead of celebrating her accomplishments. In addition to grief, many people in Missouri who lose a loved one unexpectedly also face financial hardship as a result of funeral expenses and other costs. To help with these costs, personal injury victims -- including surviving family members in the event of a fatality -- often choose to seek recompense by filing a civil lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases can help these victims fully understand their options.
