Criminal defense: Missouri teen charged with assault

When people wake from a deep sleep, they are often disoriented. The adrenaline that comes from the fear of thinking they might be in danger can distort events even more. However, police say that have arrested a Missouri teenager, claiming that he assaulted an elderly woman, based on the description of clothing provided by the alleged victim. He is now likely considering his criminal defense following his arrest.

The incident reportedly happened one night on a day in early February. Police say they were called to a residence after receiving a report of a break-in. The alleged victim, an 81-year-old woman, claims she was sleeping in her living room when she awoke to find a man with his hand over her face. She claims that she fell to the ground and that he pulled on her legs and head until she became limp. It is believed that she suffered a fractured rib during the incident.

She claims that her assailant ultimately left the residence with her purse. Police say they were able to connect the crime to a 17-year-old male who has been arrested. According to police, he was attending a party in the area. Reports also claim that he was wearing clothing that met the description provided by the victim. It is unclear if the woman's purse was recovered.

Unfortunately, the teenager now faces multiple charges, including assault, burglary and stealing. Even adults who face criminal charges feel uncertainty in the ability to make the decisions that will impact the rest of their lives so the stress that this young man must be feeling is likely high. Fortunately, a criminal defense attorney with experience with such cases can help the young Missouri man as he navigates the criminal justice system.
